Flexible Vacationing

Being flexible when traveling makes for a great adventure.

flexible travelDon’t over plan. We have always been able to find last minute hotels at good rates while traveling. Making a string of reservations will keep you from enjoying the flexibility that makes vacation fun. Yes, there are certain places that we really want to stay that will sell out. Book those. When we travel to Nashville there is a unique bed and breakfast we like to stay at in Mississippi. I book that spot for the nights we will be there well in advance. There are numerous hotels in Nashville. I wait for the last minute to book those because I am willing to let one of the bargain finding, last minute, websites recommend a hotel for that city. The internet has changed the way we travel. Don’t let your reservations tell you where you have to be. You may change your mind.

The weather may change your mind. Don’t get stuck in a place that is experiencing a string of rainy days. We were in Bavaria once when the weather was cold and drizzling with no end in sight. We got on the train with our Eurail Passes and headed east until the sun popped out. The last minute Vienna Opera tickets were ½ price. Be flexible.

When planning a cruise I always plan our arrival for one or two days before the ship sails. There are things you want to see in those port towns. Don’t miss them. Flying to your port on the same day your ship is to set sail is stressful. You cannot count on planes to deliver you to your destination as promised and even if they get you there, there is no guarantee your luggage will arrive with you. Getting on the boat without your luggage is very stressful. Trust me, I know.

Do not pack your contacts, medicine, Essential Oil, camera, or electronics in your checked baggage. If your luggage gets lost or is late arriving, you don’t want to be without these important items. Wear a backpack which will fit in the overhead compartment. The rest of your stuff can get lost. I declare, “SHOPPING TRIP!” Put a copy of your itinerary in each piece of your luggage. If it gets lost the airline will have an easier time of reconnecting you with your possessions.

Please don’t put your home address on your luggage tag. That tag announces to everyone that your home is empty and ready for thieves. I use my work address or church. They know me. If my luggage gets delivered to them, they will hang on to it until I return.

There are Essential Oils that will help you destress and help you get a good night’s sleep as you ponder the travel adventures of your luggage. Please contact me for a list of suggested oils and information about the least expensive way to purchase them. Save that money for traveling.
