Cats and Essential Oils

cat-and-dog-essential-oilsCats are amazing animals! Each one has a unique personality. Bringing one into your family is a big responsibility. Reading and responding to their health needs is a challenge. They have trouble communicating the details of how they are feeling and we are left doing a lot of guessing just like when we are dealing with a toddler.

We are determined to approach our cat’s, and our other family member’s, health issues in the most natural ways possible. That means we start with high quality pure Essential Oils.

There are some major differences between humans and cats. Duh!

Start with – they are tiny compared to humans. Dilute similarly to how you would dilute for a baby. One drop of Essential Oil to 1 Tablespoon of Fractionated Coconut Oil will likely be enough. It is better to reapply frequently.

While we are a lot bigger, we experience some of the same discomforts. Basil will soothe stings and bug bites and help with ear discomfort. Frankincense supports healthy inflammatory response and normal cell production. This King of Oils will reduce abnormal cell production. Lavender is calming for everyone in your family regardless of size. It is also used for any skin irritation, human or feline. Helichrysum is a must for every medicine cabinet. It stops bleeding. I carry it in my purse. We have a 7 year old boy. You get it.

Citrus Oils should not be used around cats. Lemon, Lime, Bergamot, Grapefruit (you get it) are difficult for a cat to process. There are plenty of Essential Oils to meet your cat’s needs safely. (Be careful of using cleaning products that contain citrus fragrances.)

We love to diffuse Essential Oils in our home. The aroma can calm or energize depending on the oils you choose. Never trap your cat in a room with the diffuser going. Leave them a way out of the room if they don’t like the oil you have chosen.

I will send you my complete list of Essential Oils which are safe for cats when you sign up for our blog.
