Get Lost!: Vacation Tips and Essential Oils

Since it’s summer time, I thought we’d talk about some travel tips I’ve learned over the years.

Remember, you are not vacationing on Mars! Less is BEST! You don’t need to bring everything you MAY need. There are stores that are willing to provide the stuff you forgot.

I love to travel. As a teacher I had a schedule that allowed our family to throw our stuff in a suitcase and explore often. It is a great life. I got to fill little ones with knowledge then hit the road. Now, I keep the grandchildren full time. My daughter in law is a teacher. I will be living a teacher’s schedule forever.

I like to travel light. That means everything I need fits in one large rolling backpack. That backpack has to roll and it has to have lots of pockets. I am very organized. Be careful not to make it too heavy. The airline may limit your bag to 50 pounds, however your own personal strength will limit what you can truly travel with. If you cannot lift it over your head, start taking stuff out. Your travel companion would rather see you in the same outfit twice than help you tote excess baggage.

Bring the shoes you know are comfy. Who needs a blister? If you are not certain about your shoes, cover your feet with your stick deodorant to prevent that blister.

Bring one pair of extra shoes- no one wants to wear wet shoes. But don’t plan the perfect shoe for every outfit. either I adjust my outfits to go with as few pairs of shoes as possible. If it doesn’t go with my black sandals, it doesn’t go on this trip.

Bring your old clothes. (Hmmmm. Really?) That shirt that is one step from the trash? BRING IT! Wear it one last time before you abandon it. I rarely have the need to impress strangers when I travel for pleasure. I leave that shirt, skirt, pants, etc in the room when I check out. I like to think the cleaning crew may have a friend in need who can use that blouse that has gotten a smidge too tight for me AND I have room in my bag for the new stuff I purchase.

Bring your supplements in condiment cups so you can toss the cup away as you take them. You will need the space for things you purchase. Not sure you have the energy for this trip? Contact me using the box on the right side of this page and I will give you information about the oil based supplements I take which give me a ton of energy for tackling adventurous vacations and feeling my best every day.

You will need some Ziplocs. Wet stuff, muddy shoes, delicious pastries all call for a Ziploc. Also bring an extension cord with multiple outlets. All that stuff you need to keep charged will be easier to manage if you are not climbing behind the furniture to plug and unplug.

You may get sick. Prepare for the worst when traveling. While I talked about traveling light, let’s talk about what you must have in the realm of essential oils.

People get sick on vacation. Minimize the time lost by having the right Essential Oils. I carry Clove is great for tooth discomfort; Basil is good for soothing bothersome ears; Lavender is great for skin issues caused by the sun, bugs, or bumps; Lemon is good for keeping the area clean and smelling great, as well as relieving minor throat irritation; Melaleuca is good to repel lice and bedbugs; Eucalyptus is great for opening airways. I also pack Helichrysum for its ability to rejuvenate damaged skin. Peppermint is great for motion sickness, stomach upsets, cooling the body and mild head and neck tension. Yes, I carry a small bag of Essential Oils when we travel. I am ready for any emergency or physical unpleasantness.  With our bag of Essential Oils we are unstoppable.

Contact me to find out about the Essential Oil brand I recommend because it is 100% pure and natural. I can help you find the best oils to address your concerns and the least expensive ways to bring them into your family’s life. The right Essential Oil is safer, cheaper, and faster. Remember, never put the oils IN you eyes, ears, or nose.

Enjoy the adventure!
