Diffusers

doterra-diffusersDiffusers are an easy, and awesome, way to experience the benefits of essential oils. Let’s look at how they work and why you should use them.

First of all, it’s important to note that a diffuser is NOT the same as a humidifier, and using essential oils in a humidifier may damage it. Also, using something like a candle or heat source to warm your essential oils will denature the oil and reduce their therapeutic benefits. The best way to use essential oils aromatically is by diffuser.

How does an essential oil diffuser work?

Diffusers typically require water and essential oils to work. The diffuser’s electronic components then cause the water to vibrate slightly, causing particles of water and oil to separate out and be dispersed into the air, adding a small amount of moisture and the scent of your selected essential oils to be added to the air.

Why should you use essential oils aromatically?

Mood enhancing- Many oils, especially citrus oils and their blends, can help create an uplifting mood through their use in a diffuser. Create a positive atmosphere in your home or office by setting up a diffuser to run all day with your favorite oils.

Oils to use: wild orange, lime, sandalwood, bergamot, ylang ylang

Sleep improving- Diffusing essential oils while you sleep can help you relax to fall asleep quicker and help you maintain a deeper sleep. You can also apply oils topically or take internally, but the diffuser is an easy way to receive aromatic benefits all night without having to put oils on your skin. This is also a great choice for use with children to help improve their sleep as well.

Oils to use: roman chamomile, lavender, clary sage

Increase focus and concentration- The smell of many essential oils can help both children and adults focus and concentrate better while working. A diffuser is an easy and non invasive way to do this in your home, office or classroom.

Oils to use: peppermint, lemon, douglas fir

Safe alternative to candles- No open flame or hot wax means diffusers are a much safer alternative to candles as there is no chance of a burn from a diffuser. Many people also complain that the synthetic chemicals used to create the fragrances in scented wax leave them with headache or make them nauseous. Essential oils do not create this effect because they are a naturally occurring substance.
