Just as certain stretches and activities should be done before and after you work out, oils can be used in different times and in different ways to keep you performing at your peak.

Soothing Blend Lotion- before and after workouts to soothe muscles

Massage blend- reduces stress before and after a big event

Peppermint or Respiratory Blend (Breathe)- apply to chest before and during exercise to open airways and improve breathing

Grounding Blend (Balance)- improve confidence

Lemongrass- apply to calves after workout to reduce cramps

White Fir, Frankincense, and Wintergreen- after workouts to reduce muscle tension

Participating in long distance running? Put 3-4 drops each of peppermint and frankincense on the bottoms of your feet before running to help your feet feel better while running.

Chronic inflammation can have a huge impact on how much (or how little) you are able to exercise. There are, however, many oils that have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, including:

  • Bergamot
  • Basil
  • Eucalyptus
  • Fennel
  • Frankincense
  • Helichrysum
  • Lavender
  • Lemongrass
  • Marjoram
  • Myrrh
  • Oregano
  • Peppermint
  • Rosemary
  • Sandalwood
  • Thyme
  • Wintergreen

These oils can be applied before, during or after a workout to sore muscles or known problem spots. These oils are also contained in Soothing Blend (Deep Blue- one of my favorites!) and Massage Blend (Aroma Touch), or you can create your blend of oils that work best for you. Many of these above oils may cause sensitive to skin, so dilution of these oils into a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil would be helpful.
