Emergency Preparedness

Sepemergency-preparedness-1tember is Emergency Preparedness Month.

83% of Americans live in a place vulnerable to natural disaster.  Tornadoes, Floods, Earthquakes,… most areas have something that threatens to disrupt normal life.  Even if you live in a safe area, terrorist threats have made us all more aware of how quickly life can change.

I live in an area where we need to be prepared for the worst.  Our local threat is from Hurricanes.

You learned in Elementary School that there are certain things everyone needs for survival, such as Food, Water, and Shelter.

Here is what we do to stay prepared:

The minute we are alerted a Hurricane is heading our way, the store shelves empty out.  It is like a grocery frenzy.  We generally plan to stay in our home rather than evacuate.  (At least until the traffic dies down).  We have an evacuation plan in the Houston area that involves allowing those closest to the water to leave first.  All of the freeways become outbound only.  It works well.  But the traffic is hellacious.  We live 44 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and 49 feet above sea level.  That means were are not likely to be directly effected by a hurricane waves hitting us.  We are in line to be effected by the results of a hurricane hitting close.  My biggest danger is from downed trees and lack of food and water.  All services are focused on those requiring life threatening emergency assistance.  That means I need to be able to take care of my family totally on my own.

I buy long term food from Sam’s Club by Augasan Farms. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/search/searchResults.jsp?searchCategoryId=all&searchTerm=long%20term%20food&fromHome=yes&xid=hdr_search-typeahead_long-term-food&_requestid=3083629

You can buy enough for your family for whatever period of time you think will take for things to get back to normal.  The shelf life is 20 years.  I like the pails in case flooding becomes an issue.

doTERRA has some products that are not marketed for “Survivalist” but look at what they can do.

Slim and Sassy Trim Shakes are a meal substitute that can be added to water and are full of great nutrients.  This delicious weight management mix was created to help fight hunger cravings and enhance energy levels while alleviating fatigue.  Perfect for preppers.  They come in CHOCOLATE or vanilla and taste great.  Even the grandkids love them.

Just a scoop of TerraGreens is a powdered mix which packs a great fruit and vegetable boost.  Add this to your emergency food supplies.  Fresh fruits and veggies are scarce during a disaster.  This is a perfect solution.

I keep a generous supply of water, pet food, candles, matches, low suds laundry detergent (dōTERRA On Guard® Laundry Detergent), can opener, contractor trash bags, duct tape (for repairing broken windows)  paper plates, cups, napkins (who wants to wash dishes with no hot water), tooth paste (dōTERRA On Guard® Natural Whitening Toothpaste), batteries of all sizes, hand crank can opener, hand crank phone charger, plain radio,  cat litter (I don’t have a cat.  Place a trash bag in the toilet, add cat litter on top of the trash bag = not so stinky toilet),

I have a suture kit.  I hope I don’t ever need it.  Expect Frankinstein type results if you are counting on me.  This would have to be a major emergency.   The Grand kids have needed stitches in the past and it is a 7 mile walk to the hospital.  No thanks!

Stock up on your prescription medications. I buy 90 day supplies when allowed by my insurance company.

I keep additional Essential Oils.  The hospitals are reserved for emergencies. I like to know I can handle many basic needs with a few important Essential Oils:

Oregano, Frankincense, Clove, OnGuard, Melaleuca, Zendocrine, Basil, Peppermint, Spikenard, Lavender, Empty Gel Caps, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Helichrysum, Lemongrass, Deep Blue, DigestZen, TerraShield.  Attend one of our classes or give me a call.  I suggest starting to integrate oils into your daily routine so you know what to do when your choices are limited.  We choose oils first!

I answer questions everyday from people who want to know what oils to use for their health concerns.  When the cell services are interrupted, I want to know that you are well trained and ready to step up to the job for your family.

I recommend the Natural Solutions Kit as a good starter kit for those who want to be prepared to handle an emergency independently.  That kit is available along with a variety of other enrollment kits (which includes your wholesale membership for one year).
