Diffusers

doterra-diffusersDiffusers are an easy, and awesome, way to experience the benefits of essential oils. Let’s look at how they work and why you should use them.

First of all, it’s important to note that a diffuser is NOT the same as a humidifier, and using essential oils in a humidifier may damage it. Also, using something like a candle or heat source to warm your essential oils will denature the oil and reduce their therapeutic benefits. The best way to use essential oils aromatically is by diffuser. Continue reading

Fractionated Coconut Oil

Fractionated Coconut Oil– This is an amazingly overlooked product!  Here is how our day goes with FCO. fractionated-coconut-oil

We start by pulling with FCO.  That means I squirt about a teaspoon into my mouth then swish as long as possible.  I then swallow and proceed to brush my teeth.   At my last dentist visit I had ZERO plaque on my teeth!  My husband, whose dentist recommended a deep cleansing, now has his own bottle with OnGuard drops added to it for swishing before he brushes his teeth.  Continue reading

Research and Essential Oils

Oils in BeakersIf you’ve ever tried to research the scientific principles behind using essential oils, you’ll find that it’s difficult to find good information out there. But why is that? So many people these days are using essential oils successfully in their homes, you would think that researchers would be falling all over themselves to figure out exactly what essential oils can do. Combining Traditional and Modern Medicine

diffuserVanderbilt Hospital in Tennessee has successfully used oils to help their nurse staff reduce stress and increase energy when working long hours in the emergency room. In 2011, a group of nurses got permission from the hospital to use the citrus oils grapefruit, wild orange, lemon and lime aromatically through diffusers. Through their experiment, the staff showed a decrease in work related stress by 30%, a decrease in feeling overwhelmed by 20%, an increase in the ability to handle stress by 45%, and an increase in perceived energy levels by 45%. The hospital has diffused these oils for several years and has to have a report of an adverse side effect. The experiment’s designers feel that the decrease in stress and increase in energy means that their patients will receive better care from nurses who are more alert and better equipped to deal with emergency situations. I live in an area where we need to be prepared for the worst.  Our local threat is from Hurricanes.

You learned in Elementary School that there are certain things everyone needs for survival, such as Food, Water, and Shelter.

Seasonal Threats and Essential Oils

I’m treating my plant based seasonal issues with….plants?allergy-season-1

Nobody likes having a stuff head. Whether it’s hay fever or pet dander, seasonal threats can be frustrating to deal with. The human body produces histines whenever it suspects a foreign invader, which can include mild irritants such as pollen, mold and dust mites. However, if your body overreacts to these normally benign invaders with a massive amount of histines, a physical reaction occurs, from runny nose and teary eyes to mild breathing issues. Modern medicines used to treat these symptoms can have side effects, such as drowsiness, nose bleeds, headaches, loss of smell and taste, as well more serious side effects such as nasal sprays that cause damage to the nasal cavity.
